Toledo falls in Toutle Lake

The Toledo boys basketball team came out slow and couldn’t recover on Tuesday at Toutle Lake, as the Riverhawks fell to the Ducks 62-48.

The Ducks came out with an extra level of energy and intensity, as it was longtime coach Eric Swanson’s final home game in his 33-year career as the Toutle Lake coach.

Toutle Lake scored the first seven points of the game, eliciting a timeout from Toledo coach Grady Fallon.

“They got all the momentum,” Fallon said. “We just could never get back … We battled, but we didn’t match their intensity.”

The Riverhawks (13-7, 6-6 C2BL) stayed within striking distance, but they were never able to get close enough to make the Ducks sweat.

Trevin Gale led the way offensively with 11 points, while Kaven Winters scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Cooper Fallon scored seven points and hauled in seven rebounds.

It wasn’t the worst night in terms of ball security for Toledo, which only turned the ball over 15 times, but Fallon noted that it’s still an area they need to shore up as they head into the postseason.

“It’s almost playoff time,” Fallon said. “And we gotta be better than we were tonight.”

Before postseason play begins, Toledo will host Rainier on Thursday. The winner will be the No. 5 seed at districts, while the loser will be right behind at No. 6.
