Lewis County Fire District 2, also known as the Toledo Fire Department, will launch its own advanced life support (ALS) program in 2025, the department announced Thursday.

The department’s goal is to fully launch the ALS program on Jan. 1, 2025.

“This marks a significant step forward in our commitment to providing the highest level of emergency care to our community,” the Toledo Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

District 2 and neighboring districts previously relied on Lewis County Medic One for ALS services until Medic One dissolved in 2022. The Toledo Fire Department has contracted with the Winlock Fire Department to staff paramedics in Toledo full time since April 2023.

“On behalf of the Toledo Fire Department, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Winlock Fire Department for providing paramedics during our preparation for our advanced life support program. Your support has been invaluable and we are grateful for your partnership as we work towards enhancing our services,” the Toledo Fire Department said in a Thursday post. “In addition, we are grateful for our community and its continued support to (the) Toledo Fire Department.”

Toledo Fire Department Chief Chris Davidson “has worked diligently this year to prepare Toledo Fire Department to independently provide ALS services to its community,” the department said.

Part of the remaining preparation was hiring an ALS medical services officer to finalize the launching of a fully staffed ALS program, the department stated.

Isaac Chassin, who has over 10 years of EMS experience, joined the Toledo Fire Department as its new ALS medical services officer on Sept. 2, the department announced Thursday.
