A Toledo man faces felony harassment charges after he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend’s daughter while intoxicated.
Benjamin D. Dawson, 47, is charged with one count each of felony harassment and fourth-degree assault. Both charges are considered domestic violence offenses.
Dawson made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Tuesday. A judge set bail at $10,000 cash or bond and prohibited Dawson from contacting the alleged victim.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded to the reported assault on Monday and spoke to the alleged victim.
The woman said Dawson had become upset and “left the home to get more beer,” according to the affidavit.
While out, Dawson allegedly called the woman and threatened to kill her.
The woman believed the threat. She told deputies that Dawson had, in the past, held the family at gunpoint.
The woman said she hid in a vehicle on the property. Dawson returned and allegedly confronted her.
According to the affidavit, Dawson “was able to get the vehicle unlocked” and “pinned (the woman) against the seat by the throat.”
Dawson posted bail on Tuesday. He’s scheduled for an arraignment on Thursday.
