It was an eventful weekend out east for the Riverhawks, going 3-2 at Friday’s SunDome Volleyball Festival Tournament and a day later, beating Kittitas 28-26, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19 on the road.

Toledo’s three wins in the tournament all came via two-set sweeps in the best-of-three sets format. It triumphed over The Bush School, Selah’s JV squad and White Swan. The two setbacks were to reigning Class 1A state runner-up Meridian in two and then a three-set loss to Annie Wright.

The Riverhawks ended up in the silver bracket after pool play where they took third. For the tournament, Ellie Fallon posted 49 kills, 25 digs and 12 aces while her setter Sidney Kruger distributed 92 assists.

Abby Umbriaco hit .311 in the five contests with 19 kills. Lexi Young and Taysia Miller registered 17 and 16 kills, respectively. Those three also had double digit digs.

“We were able to play against some tough teams and get some opportunities to see where the gaps are in our systems,” Toledo head coach Whitney Nailon said.

The Riverhawks went up against what Nailon referred to as a “pretty big block” in the Coyotes and took care of business in four. Fallon and Young each had 13 kills to pace the front row plus they combined for 10 aces. Miller added 10 kills and Kruger dished out 35 assists.

Toledo will take on 4A Yelm on Monday.
