Toledo’s comeback not enough in barn-burning loss to Elma

The Riverhawks dug themselves a 10-0 hole they couldn’t fully dig out of and ended up falling to the Eagles in a high-scoring non-league contest 13-10 on Saturday afternoon.

Two runs in the top of the third – thanks to a Brady Weeks RBI single and a Nico Acosta bases-loaded walk – started the rally for Toledo (11-5). It left the bases loaded in the frame, but capitalized in the fifth with an eight-spot.

Loading the bags with zero outs was only the beginning. A hit by pitch, three straight singles and a Brady Lawrence two-run double made it a three-run game. Maason Ruiz and Lawrence scored on wild pitches to make it 11-10.

Elma promptly responded in the sixth with a two-RBI base hit and Toledo went down in order in the seventh. Joaquin Acosta went 4-for-4 for the Riverhawks while Lawrence, Nico Acosta and Eli Weeks all had a hit and two RBIs.

Up next for the Riverhawks is a Monday afternoon C2BL showdown with Mossyrock.
