Toro’s Barbershop has announced it will host its annual back-to-school event from 1 to 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the NW Sports Hub, 701 Allen Ave., Centralia.

Now in its fourth year, the event offers free haircuts for students so they can be prepared for the upcoming school year, as well as school supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, binders, pencils, lunchboxes and more.

The school supplies are donated from residents of Lewis County and members of the Toro’s Barbershop team, and, like the haircuts, are free for students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The event is aimed at kids in the Lewis County area, but is open to any students and their families who want to attend.

In past years, Toro’s Barbershop and partners have given out over 215 haircuts to students, with the goal of getting kids cleaned up and ready to go back to school. This year, the event is expected to have between 12 and 17 barbers, the largest number so far.

The event usually gains a couple more volunteers each year, event organizers stated.

“We do this event every year with the goal of including all families of all races and backgrounds, so everyone who can come together to build something greater than,” Alberto Isguerra, event organizer and owner of Toro’s Barbershop, said. “Our business stands for Lewis County, and we want everyone to feel safe and wanted and welcome. If our barbershop can contribute to that, then it's a win. Everyone can contribute, and that is shown through the growth of our event every year.”
