Track Roundup: Bearcats Sweep Dual Meet With Wolves

Testing out the track again at Tumwater District Stadium, the W.F. West boys and girls track teams each earned wins over Black Hills in Thurston County Wednesday afternoon, with the boys taking a 110-29 decision over the Wolves and the girls winning 73-66. 

On the boys side, the Bearcats won 14 of the 17 events, led by Lucas Hoff’s triple individual wins and another on the 4x400-meter relay. 

Hoff won the javelin (142 feet, one inch), high jump (5 feet, 10 inches), and pole vault (12 feet, 6 inches), and was on the winning 4x400 with Declan McDonald, Kade Mohoric, and Hayden Niemi (3:58.39). 

McDonald also picked up a pair of sprinting wins in the 100 meters (11.71) and 200 (24.55), while Niemi won the 400 in 57.43. 

Elsewhere on the track, Ezra Birchard won the 800 (2:30.55), Jaysen Miles won the 1600 (5:09.93), Emmett Imboden won the 110m hurdles (18.55), and Maddox Sampson won the 300m hurdles (46.42). 

On the field, the Bearcat boys also had winners in Caleb Busse in the discus (138 feet, 8 inches), Brian Anouma in the long jump (18 feet, 5 inches), and Brody Stidham in the triple jump (33 feet, 10 inches). 

The Wolves lone boys winners were Mason Burke in the 3200 (10:57.11) and Liam Wall in the shot put (44 feet, 9 inches), along with the 4x100 meter relay team of John Buchanan, Destin Heck, Nathan Glen, and Wall, which ran 400 meters in 47.87. 

On the girls side, the Bearcats won 11 of the 18 total events, led by Emily Mallonee’s triple individual win. 

Mallonee won the 400 (1:07.91), 100m hurdles (18.98), 300m hurdles (57.87), and was a member of the winning 4x400 meter relay team alongside Wyatt Rogerson, Kaija Economou, and Amanda Bennett (4:42.79). 

Bennett also had two individual wins on the field, taking home first in the javelin with a personal best 115 foot, 11 inch toss, and in the long jump (14 feet, 11 inches). 

Freshman Lauren Kelley was also a double winner, taking home sprinting wins in the 100 (13.78) and 200 (28.90), and Mercedes Ricks won both the 1600m (6:07.19) and pole vault (6 feet, 6 inches). 

The last win for W.F. West came in the 4x100, where Ariana Wheaton, Grace Simpson, Kelley, and Economou won in 56.17. 

Black Hills had a strong showing on the field for the girls, with Ashley Harris taking home wins in both the shot put (33 feet, 8 inches) and the discus (103 feet, 5 inches). 

Lilly Kincaid won both the 800 (2:38.18) and the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches), Emma Hughes won the 3200 (15:37.84), and Olivia Cammack won the triple jump (28 feet, 6 inches) for the Wolves. 



Black Hills also won the girls 4x200, with Loralei Upton, London Spray, Ava Dwyer-Geris, and Zaniah Robinson winning in 2:09.29. 

Tumwater Wins 3-Team Meet With Rochester, Shelton

Taking home wins on both the boys and girls sides, the Tumwater track and field team had a strong showing at a league meet with Rochester and Shelton Wednesday afternoon at Highclimber Stadium. 

On the boys side the T-Birds won 11 of the 17 events, paced by Makhi Odoms double win in the horizontal leaping events. Odoms won the long jump in 22 feet, 2.75 inches and the triple jump with a 41 foot, 5 inch hop, step, and jump. 

Elsewhere, Christian Schlecht won the 200 (23.61), Reis Howell won the 400 (52.62), John Hoffer was the 3200 (9:35.25), Reid Crumley won the 110m hurdles (16.54), Jadin Allen won the shot put (44 feet, 3 inches), Malijah Tucker won the javelin (139 feet, 9 inches), Jayden Thomas won the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches), and Kylar Carlson won the pole vault (11 feet). 

The T-Bird boys also won the 4x400 meter relay in 3:36.73 with Crumley, Howell, David Malroy and Jaxon Budd. 

Rochester’s lone boys winner came from Ashton Rodriguez, who won the 100 meter dash in 11.51. Rodriguez also finished second in the 200 with a personal best 23.87. 

On the girls side the T-Birds did the boys one better, winning 12 events. 

The Thunderbirds got the relay sweep, winning the 4x100 featuring Mariah Jett, Rhylee Beebe, Kennedy Reidl, and Cassidy Hedin in 52.24, winning the 4x200 featuring Annabelle Clapp, Hedin, Reese Heryford, and Ava Jones in 1:46.45, and winning the 4x400 featuring Jones, Hedin, Heryford, and Clapp in 4:18.83. 

Jett also picked up a win in the 100 (13.20), Beebe won the 200 (28.52), Jones won the 400 (1:03.26), and Clapp won the 800 in 2:25.59. 

Other winners for Tumwater include Selly Beyene in the 1600 (5:48.89), Audrey Strand in the 300m hurdles (54.03), Rizaline Johnson in the pole vault (7 feet, 6 inches), Aneila Sheppard in the long jump (14 feet, 9.75 inches), and Kaila Fisher in the triple jump (30 feet, 11.25 inches). 

Rochester’s lone girls winner was Emily Weddle, with the senior winning the shot put with a 35 foot, 5 inch toss and the discus with a personal best 102 foot, 7 inch throw.
