The Centralia College volleyball team bounced back from a close, five-set loss to Big Bend on Friday by finishing the Blazer Classic with a pair of four set victories over Blue Mountain and South Puget Sound on Saturday.

“I think they really found their groove,” coach Ceanna Larson said. “We have a pretty young team, so I was excited how they showed up today. They were better prepared and finished those games better.”

After dropping the first set of the day against Blue Mountain 23-25, the Trailblazers (2-1) controlled the rest of the match, winning the next three sets 25-13, 25-15, and 25-22 to win the match.

“They were able to take a deep breath, focus in, and get back under control,” Larson said.

All four sets against SPSCC were closer, but CC was able to put away a 25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21 victory.

Larson was pleased with the way the girls played over the course of the weekend, specifically how they bounced back after losing the opener.

“Opening weekend is always fun to just dive in and know everything matters now,” Larson said. “There’s that pressure, but we love that pressure.”

Over the three games, Paige Miller led the team with 63 kills, and she also tallied 37 digs. Cadence Gumanas logged 50 digs and 32 kills, and Analiese Martin led the way at the net with 16 blocks while adding 15 kills. Avery Starr added 136 assists and 38 digs.

The Trailblazers will be back in action at home on Monday against Olympic.
