Two Oregon residents were hospitalized after the car they were pulling on Interstate 5 was pushed into their truck following a collision with another vehicle.
The incident occurred about 11:35 p.m. May 31 in Cowlitz County, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
According to WSP, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado was transporting a 2011 Toyota Prius southbound near milepost 51 when a 2012 Toyota Corolla hit the truck’s trailer.
The collision pushed the trailer — and the Prius it was carrying — into the back of the Silverado.
The driver of the Silverado, Jay E. Silva, 34, of Oregon City, and passenger, Abdullah Azimi, 19, of Hillsboro, Oregon, were transported to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview.
Both men were reportedly wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
The driver of the Corolla, Joseph W. Mesenar, 19, of Longview, was not injured. He, too, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
Troopers cited Mesenar for second-degree negligent driving.
In its incident report, WSP said the cause of the collision was “speed too fast for conditions,” and said no drugs or alcohol had been involved.
