Daytime travelers who don’t change their plans could see 7-mile backups on southbound Interstate 5 approaching Grand Mound, according to a news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Maintenance crews plan to reduce a 2-mile section of southbound I-5 to one lane. Lane closures begin at the U.S. Highway 12 ramp to southbound I-5 from 6 a.m. to noon, June 2-3, near the I-5 and U.S. Highway 12 interchange.
During the lane closures, crews will fill gaps in the surface of the roadway and fix potholes.
According to the release, travelers should:
• Consider rescheduling discretionary trips.
• Travel before or after work hours.
• Add two hours of extra travel time.
• Check the vehicle’s tank or have a fully-charged vehicle.
The repairs will help reduce the rate of deterioration on the roadway.
All work is weather dependent and could be rescheduled.
