Trojans ‘outplayed’ by Mules in Cathlamet

Cathlamet proved to be a tough place to place for the Pe Ell boys basketball team on Thursday, as the Trojans were soundly defeated 68-32 by Wahkiakum.

“We were outplayed tonight,” Pe Ell coach Ross Hojem said. “There’s no excuses. We found it hard to score against the Mules' hard-nosed man defense, and we just didn’t have any answers on our defensive end either.”

It was a one-point game after the first, but Wahkiakum’s offense caught fire in the second. The Mules scored 26 in the second before adding 34 more points over the final two frames, while Pe Ell scored just 25 points across the final three quarters.

Jakob Hayes finished with a team-high nine points, while Blake Nelson scored six and Calan McCarty added five. Silas Edgar and Mauricio Morales both logged four points.

“We’ll move on from this one,” Hojem said. “We’ll continue to work hard in practice and fix some things and be better.”

The Trojans (6-6, 3-1 1B CVL) will get the chance to bounce back on Tuesday at Columbia Adventist.
