The Pe Ell girls basketball team found itself down 11 after one quarter of play against Mary M. Knight on Monday, but stormed back for a comfortable 52-33 win over the Owls.

In the final three quarters, the Trojans (6-2, 1-1 1B Columbia Valley) outscored the Owls 44-14, led by a stellar all-around effort from Karli Phelps. Phelps scored a game-high 20 points, and she also hauled in six rebounds, dished out four assists, and nabbed three steals.

Phelps had the best game I've seen her play this season,” Pe Ell coach Kelsey Lennox said. “She didn't panic when we got behind in the beginning, but rather took charge on the court, made some great passes, and hit big shots when we needed it.”

Lennox also commended Emma Kissner, who not only tallied eight points, six rebounds, and three steals, but was also a source of energy on the floor.

“It's just a different level of play with her in there,” Lennox said. “She hustles, she runs the floor, she rebounds, and she rarely gets beat on defense.”

Brookelynn King added 14 points, and Peyton Zock led the team with 10 rebounds.

While Lennox wasn’t pleased with the way the game began, but was proud of the way that the Trojans didn’t waver.

“My girls didn't hang their heads and get down on themselves or each other,” Lennox said. “But instead encouraged one another and stayed focused on what we needed to do to win.”

The Trojans return home on Wednesday, when they’ll host Oakville.
