The Pe Ell volleyball team got back above .500 on Tuesday, sweeping Willapa Valley 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 in a 1B Columbia Valley matchup.

In front of a ramped-up crowd wearing pink for breast cancer awareness, the Trojans fed off the energy and held off the Vikings in each set.

“Our home crowd got in the action and had that gym rocking with excitement,” Pe Ell coach Eddi Peterson said. “That really kept us going strong.”

Younger players stepped up for the Trojans on Tuesday, including freshman Karli Phelps, who had seven kills, and sophomore Madi Engel, who had five.

While Peterson was pleased with the performance from those two, she was also happy with the way the team came together over the course of the game.

“Tonight was definitely a night that proved working together can get the job done,” Peterson said. “The last three weeks, the girls have given 100 percent effort into teamwork and it’s showing.”

Both the Trojans and Vikings are now 6-5 overall and 4-4 in league play.

Pe Ell is back in action on Monday against Mary M. Knight, while Willapa Valley will host Wahkiakum at the same time.
