Trojans shut down Eagles in dominant home win

Pe Ell puts its best foot forward on defense at home on Friday, shutting down Evergreen Lutheran in a 57-15 blowout victory.

The Eagles were able to score eight points in the first, but the Trojans held them to just seven points over the final three frames. Evergreen Lutheran was only able to attempt 11 shots in the first half, and Pe Ell held them to under 30 total attempts for the game.

“No matter who is in, they did a great job of keeping their opponents in front of them, moving together, helping on screens, and anticipating passes,” Pe Ell coach Kelsey Lennox said.

Maisy King led the Trojans with 18 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals, and she also deflected seven passes, while Peyton Zock added 12 points, three steals, and a block.

Karli Phelps played “one of her best defensive games,” posting seven steals along with 11 points and four assists. In addition, she also held Evergreen Lutheran’s top scorer scoreless.

Madi Engel added eight points and four steals, Tristyn Zock scored four points, and both Ava King and Bailey Cox scored two. Ava King also added five assists, four rebounds, and three steals.

Pe Ell (11-7, 6-0 1B CVL) will have a chance to clinch a league title against Wahkiakum on Tuesday in Cathlamet.
