The Pe Ell girls basketball team came out just ahead of 2B Ocosta in a non-league showdown Saturday, 48-43.

Karli Phelps posted 19 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and seven assists to lead the Trojans. Brooklynn King added 12 points — on four 3-pointers — and also had eight rebounds, while Devyn Shannon posted 10 points — eight in the second half — and nine boards to come close to a double-double of her own.

Peyton Zock led the way on the glass with 12 rebounds, and had five blocks on defense.

The game stayed close the whole way, tied at 36-36 going into the fourth quarter, but Pe Ell held Ocosta to just seven points in the final frame to seal the deal.

“This was a close game the entire way, but it was a great learning experience for my girls,” Pe Ell coach Kelsey Lennox said. “For one, they learned how to play through adversity, that when some aren't having their best night, others need to step up and fill the void. They also learned that they can win these close games, as long as they stay calm, trust each other, and execute the game plan.”

Pe Ell is set to be off until Friday, when it faces Mossy.
