The defending 2A state champ Tumwater got a rude awakening against 4A Olympia on Saturday afternoon at the RAC in Lacey.
Fueled by a nine-run top of the first inning, the Bears picked up a 13-1 win and dropped the Thunderbirds below the .500 mark.
An additional three runs in the top of the sixth put the game well out of reach as Olympia improved to 3-0. Tumwater (1-2) avoided the shutout with a single from Jimmy Womach and Liam Karlson scoring on an outfield error.
Four different Tumwater pitchers combined for 10 walks, five strikeouts and two hit batters.
Will Bond finished with two of Tumwater’s five hits.
