The Centralia and Chehalis police departments will once again partner with the Salvation Army for a “Battle of the Badges” on Tuesday, Dec. 10, to raise money for the Red Kettle Campaign.

The Centralia Police Department will be at the Centralia Safeway and the Chehalis Police Department will be at the Chehalis Safeway from noon to 2 p.m. on Dec. 10 ringing the red kettle bells for the Salvation Army.

“This is a friendly competition (less friendly, more competitive) between city police departments,” the Centralia and Chehalis police departments said in a joint news release. “Last year, Centralia PD’s efforts raised $6.77 more than the Chehalis PD. We are excited to see how our departments can partner with their community to help support the Red Kettle Campaign.”

Those ringing the bells for their respective departments are volunteers or officers who are not on the clock, according to the news release.

“Police department administrations’ participation will be done in a way that does not impact police operations or customer service. This is an opportunity for us to be in our community and interact with the public we are fortunate to serve,” the police departments said in a news release.

The Red Kettle Campaign supports providing food to local people in need, housing stability, sending kids to camp, veterans assistance and next year’s giving tree.

Over 600 local kids have signed up to receive presents through the Salvation Army this year, according to the news release.

The campaign also helps support the Salvation Army’s disaster relief response in the Twin Cities.

“During disasters, they provide emergency shelter, food and support for anyone in need — police departments nationwide partner with the Salvation Army to support their local communities,” the police departments state in a news release.
