Two of the Twin City Lacrosse Association teams hosted their final home games of the season at Chehalis Middle School on Saturday, hosting a squad from Sumner/Bonney Lake and Kitsap.
The K-2 team finished its inaugural campaign with a promising performance against the experienced Sumner/Bonney Lake squad.
According to coach Matt Elsner, the Lumberjacks competed hard throughout the game and gained valuable experience and practice heading into next weekend’s league tournament.
The 5th/6th grade team was also at home, where they “proved to be a tough test” against a strong Kitsap team. The two teams traded goals in the first quarter before Kitsap began pulling away in the second.
Twin City later committed some untimely penalties, and Kitsap capitalized on the chances to add on. The Lumberjacks battled, attempting to regain momentum, but Kitsap had an answer for each push.
The 5th/6th grade team will now turn its attention to the South Sound Lacrosse Tournament in University Place set for May 16-17.
The 7th/8th team was not at home, instead hitting the road for a doubleheader. In the first game, the Lumberjacks got their revenge against a Thurston County team that defeated them in the opener in February, winning 7-4. After that, they traveled to Gig Harbor, battling hard but ultimately coming up just short in a 7-6 loss.
Several of the eighth graders on the 7th/8th team were members of the inaugural Twin Cities team in 2021, and they will look to continue the team’s legacy with a strong performance at the South Sound League Tournament next weekend in University Place.
