The Centralia College Foundation has named Joe Burr and Brian Rauscher as the recipients of the 2022 Exceptional Faculty Awards. Their selection was based on “their commitment to and excellence in their subject areas, and participation in campus activities,” according to the college.

According to the announcement, Burr teaches pre-college English and college-prep classes. He also serves as the faculty advisor for the college’s youth education program at Green Hill School in Chehalis. Burr started working at Centralia College in 2013 when he was attending graduate school. He was offered a full-time, tenured position with Centralia College in 2019.

A native of Lacey, Burr said, “I love the students I teach and the faculty I work with, and the programs we offer.”

Burr considered it a great honor to be chosen for the award, according to the college’s statement.

Rauscher began working at Centralia College in 2018 after a position as a faculty counselor opened up. A midwest native who “fell in love with the Pacific Northwest” while attending graduate school at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Rauscher advises 100 to 130 students every quarter while also teaching human resources classes.

For the past three years, he has served as the co-chair of the Guided Pathways Committee, where he works toward “a comprehensive revision of CC’s educational offerings to better serve students and to make degree completion easier to navigate.”

“I love the wide range of students coming in with amazing backgrounds, interests and goals,” Rauscher said.
