Two families were displaced following a fire that broke out at the Chehalis Avenue Apartments on Sunday, according to the Chehalis Fire Department.

The family in the apartment that the fire started in was awoken by their smoke alarms, which gave them time to safely evacuate their apartment, according to the Chehalis Fire Department.

Fire personnel with the Chehalis Fire Department were dispatched to the fire in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at approximately 8:33 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, with the first unit arriving at the scene at about 8:36 a.m.

Mutual aid crews from Lewis County Fire District 6-Chehalis/Adna, Lewis County Fire District 5-Napavine and the Riverside Fire Authority also responded.

The fire was fully extinguished by 9:03 a.m. on Sunday, and crews remained on scene for overhaul until 10:50 a.m., according to the Chehalis Fire Department.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was contained to the apartment of origin, but a neighboring apartment sustained light smoke and water damage and its occupants were displaced, according to the Chehalis Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
