Two people were killed in a four-car crash caused by a wrong-way driver on northbound Interstate 5 near Castle Rock shortly before 3 a.m. on Friday.

A white 2006 Ford Ranger was reportedly driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5 when the Ranger struck a red 2013 Ford Escape near milepost 49.5, according to the Washington State Patrol. The Ranger came to rest at a 90 degree angle blocking the far right lane on northbound I-5. A silver 2014 Subaru Impreza then struck the Escape, which came to rest in a ditch off the right shoulder, while the Impreza came to rest blocking the middle lane of northbound I-5. A fourth vehicle, a black 1996 Honda Accord, then struck debris from the previous collisions and came to rest on the Exit 49 off-ramp.

The driver of the Ranger, identified as a 22-year-old male, and the driver of the Escape, identified as a 41-year-old male, were both declared dead at the scene.

The Washington State Patrol did not release their names Friday pending notification of their next of kin.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured, although the driver of the Impreza,a  22-year-old male, was transported to St. John Medical Center as a precaution, according to the Washington State Patrol.
