Two Lewis County Jail inmates are facing felony charges for allegedly sharing fentanyl they reportedly found in the jail’s bathroom.

Jail staff notified the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office of the drug violations just after 9:50 p.m. on April 23, according to court documents.

Corrections deputies had reportedly found fentanyl in the pocket of one inmate, identified as Andy Simon, 36, who said he got the fentanyl from a fellow inmate, identified as Ryan Coleman, 44.

When interviewed, Coleman reportedly “said he found the little blue pieces of substance in the bathroom” and “thought it was soap,” according to court documents.

Surveillance video reportedly showed Coleman “nodding off” while other inmates were trying various methods to “keep Coleman alert,” including striking him across the face.

A urine test reportedly confirmed Coleman had fentanyl in his system, according to court documents.

Coleman and Simon were each charged with one count of violation of the controlled substance act earlier this week.

Coleman entered a not guilty plea in Lewis County Superior Court on Thursday, April 27.

Simon’s arraignment is scheduled for May 4.
