Two men attempted to rob an Amazon delivery driver last week, according to Olympia police.

About 1:50 p.m. July 22, the delivery driver was in the 200 block of Columbia Street Northwest, near State Avenue downtown.

The 25-year-old driver was organizing and unloading packages when two men, both in their 30s, crossed the street and approached his van.

One of the men began demanding he give them packages or else they would shoot him, Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower said. The second man acted as a lookout, Lower said.

The driver did not see a gun, but he said the suspect who yelled at him appeared to have one in his pocket, Lower said.

Meanwhile, a maintenance worker at a nearby apartment building witnessed what was happening, according to police. That person opened a door and motioned to the driver to get inside. The driver closed the doors to his van and joined the worker, locking the door behind them.

They then watched through a window as both suspects tried to get into the van. They eventually left, but were arrested about two hours later in the 200 block of Fifth Avenue, Lower said.

Both were booked on suspicion of felony attempted robbery. A gun was not found, Lower said.
