Two 16-year-old boys were arrested and booked into Thurston County Juvenile Detention on Thursday evening after a gas station convenience store clerk was robbed at gunpoint near Capital Mall in Olympia.
Olympia police spokesperson Lt. Paul Lower said the incident was reported at around 8:15 p.m. Thursday, June 6, in the 900 block of Black Lake Boulevard Southwest. A store employee called 911 stating he had been robbed at gunpoint by two males.
Lower said two suspects entered the store and stole two boxes of cigars. The store clerk confronted the suspects outside the store and demanded they return the cigars. That's when one of the suspects pointed a handgun at the clerk's face and threatened to shoot him. The other suspect then punched the clerk in the face, giving him a bloody lip.
The suspects fled on foot but were later found in the parking lot of the mall. Lower said one of the suspects resisted arrest when officers found the handgun. The suspect tried taking the gun from officers despite being handcuffed, and he was placed in a wrap restraint device.
The two were booked on suspicion of first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and possession of a stolen firearm.
