A Vader man was injured in a three-car crash on Interstate 5 Friday, according to a Washington State Patrol (WSP) press memo.

Robert J. McPherson, 21, was driving a 1991 Mercury Tracer northbound near milepost 82 in Centralia at about 12:20 p.m. when he “failed to slow for traffic” and struck two vehicles in front of him, according to the memo.

McPherson was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital following the incident. Troopers said he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

The Tracer was considered totaled.

The drivers of the other vehicles, Michael L. Matwichuk, 31, of Monroe, and Sarah J. Joslin, 46, of Yelm, were both uninjured in the collision.

In its memo, WSP said no drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident and said the cause of the collision was “speed too fast for conditions.”
