The Mossyrock boys basketball team’s tough stretch continued on Thursday, as the Vikings fell to Naselle 73-68.

The Vikings (7-6, 5-2 1B Columbia Valley) came out of the gate strong, taking an 18-11 lead into the second quarter, but the Comets responded in the second and took a 30-25 lead into the locker room.

Both offenses took off in the second half, as each team scored 43 points. Mossyrock hit 15 3-pointers on the night, including seven from Zack Munoz, who led the team with 26 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

We didn’t seem able to keep our energy up after the first quarter,” Mossyrock coach Kelly Ross said.” And when we made a push at the end, it was just too late.”

The Comets shot 51 percent from the floor, including 43 percent from deep.

“It was a hard fought game and they shot really well,” Ross said. “Defensively, we seemed to be a step slow, and we were out hustled for every loose ball.”

Tyce Vigre added 10 points and also came down with 10 rebounds, and Luke Cooper just missed out on a double-double with 10 assists and nine points of his own.

The Vikings have now lost five of seven, but they’ll look to get back on track at home on Monday against Willapa Valley.
