Spurred by freshman point guard Colby Cournyer, the Mossyrock High School boys basketball team did enough to hold off Toutle Lake and triumph 62-56 in a C2BL contest at home on Thursday night.
It was a 26-point night for Cournyer in going toe-to-toe with Toutle Lake’s Easton White, who finished with a game-high 35. In the end, the depth of the Vikings (5-7, 3-6 C2BL) was enough. Shaun Fry added 14 while Ethan Johnson and Mason Atter each scored six.
Mossyrock won the first quarter by six points and that proved to be the difference after the final three were dead even. It hadn’t won a league game since Dec. 13 versus Winlock and will look to make it back-to-back on Tuesday versus Rainier.
“We still have some things to look at and work on,” Vikings head coach Kelly Ross said. “But this was a great start to the second half of the season, and I am really happy with how we stayed under control to finish the game.”
