Logan Mays scored half of Morton-White Pass’ points with 26, but it wasn’t enough as Mossyrock held on to defeat the Timberwolves 55-52 Thursday night.
Mossyrock led by nine at the halftime break thanks to a big first half from Shaun Fry before MWP slowly crept closer in the third quarter to draw within four heading to the fourth.
Turnovers and poor shot selection hurt the Timberwolves down the stretch, and a balanced offensive attack from Mossyrock helped the Vikings secure their second win of the season. Fry led Mossy with 16 points, while Colby Cournyer scored 14 and Aylan Bigbee tallied 10. Blue Sievers contributed eight points, and Mason Atter added six.
“We had quite a few turnovers, forced looks, just little things that kind of killed us,” MWP head coach Kevin Dunlap Jr. said. “I was proud of how hard Logan played. We all worked hard. We’ve just got little things we have to work on.”
Outside of Mays’ 26, Sebastian Gonzalez scored 10 for MWP, and three Timberwolves — Kohen Ingalsbe, Owen Loucks and Michael Biacan tallied four apiece. MWP has lost its first two games of the season by a combined five points, as it lost to Winlock 45-43 on Dec. 3.
Mossyrock (2-3, 2-3 Central 2B League) will travel to Winlock (1-3, 1-2 C2BL) Saturday night, and MWP (0-2, 0-2 C2BL) gets two non-conference games, first at home against Ocosta Saturday and then at Kalama Monday.
