Vikings stave off Ducks to advance

A big second half propelled the Mossyrock girls basketball team to a victory on Saturday, a 53-40 win over Toutle Lake that keeps the Vikings alive in the 2B District 4 Tournament.

“It was a good team win,” Mossyrock coach Nick Rashoff said. “Our girls played well today on both ends of the floor and were able to pull away.”

It was tight throughout the first half, and the Vikings led just 21-20 at halftime. They were much more efficient in the second half, though, scoring 32 points to build a double-digit lead.

“We came out offensively, hit some big shots, and executed on offense,” Rashoff said.

Chesney Schultz led the charge with 16 points, though Maci Rashoff wasn’t far back with 15. Kendall Cournyer scored 12, while Adyson Barrows and Taylor Schwartz added five apiece.

With the win, the Vikings (10-10) advanced in the elimination bracket, still two wins shy of a state tournament berth. They’ll take on Forks on Tuesday at Castle Rock in another elimination game.
