Vikings Win Second Straight Thanks to Strong Start

Though it was off for nearly a month, the Mossyrock boys basketball team has started to mount some victories in the new year, winning its second straight over Muckleshoot Tribal Saturday morning, 56-50.

The Vikings (3-4, 1-1 1B CVL) got out to a huge 21-8 run after one quarter, and though the last three quarters weren’t nearly as pretty, hung on to their lead all morning.

Coach Adam Deck said his team came out on fire, but an early 11 a.m. start and inconsistent court time have made it an uphill battle to find court time.

“We just haven’t had a lot of game action,” Deck said, citing his team’s last game before the new year being Dec. 13. “Once we can get some flow going, like every team, we’ll be okay.”

The Vikings were led by Keegan Kolb’s 22 points, and Zack Munoz’s 18. Keegan’s brother, Easton, scored 10 to round out the double-digit scorers for Mossy. Deck made sure to commend the play of forward Warren Nelson for his effort on the boards, where he was especially active Saturday.

Mossyrock will look to continue its winning ways when it takes on league-leading Willapa Valley at home on Tuesday.
