The Mossyrock girls basketball team’s three-game winning streak came to an end on Friday, as the Vikings lost 36-30 to Ilwaco.

Both teams struggled offensively throughout, as neither team scored more than 11 in a quarter.

The Fishermen held a slim 22-18 lead at the break, but they extended it to a nine-point lead going into the final frame, one that the Vikings could only make a dent in.

Chesney Schultz led the Vikings (3-4, 2-0 1B Columbia Valley) with nine points and eight rebounds, while Kendall Cournyer added eight points off the bench.

Mossyrock coach Autumn Moorcroft commended Cournyer’s performance, saying that she “makes things happen.”

“Her energy and effort is contagious,” Moorcroft said. “I enjoy seeing her make plays and just flat outworking the other team.”

Moorcroft was pleased with the team’s defensive effort, noting that if they keep performing to that level, they’ll win a lot of games.

“Our defensive effort was the best I’ve seen this year,” Moorcroft said. “It’s a bummer to not come out with a win in games like that, but it’s a great experience to learn from.”

The Vikings are back on the road on Monday, when they’ll travel to Onalaska.
