Editor’s note: This is the first in a series of articles focused on the success of local students in the SkillsUSA state competition. Centralia High School students will be featured in Saturday’s edition of The Chronicle.
W. F. West High School students found success at the SkillsUSA State Leadership & Skills Conference Thursday, March 27, through Saturday, March 29.
The Quiz Bowl team, including Kyan Porter, Will Cummings, Madi Teeter, Raegan Degravalles and Michelle Tan, won first place and qualified for nationals in June.
Kyan Porter won State Officer for the second year in a row and will get to serve as a SkillsUSA State Officer in the 2025-2026 school year.
Hayden Steele also qualified for nationals after finishing first in Early Childhood Education.
Other state placers include:
• Allie Anderson — second place in Early Childhood Education
• Madi Teeter — second place in Screen Printing
• Will Cummings, Allie Anderson and Charlie Clinton — second place in Community Service
• Ellie Clinton — Third place in Graphic Imaging Sublimation
• Bella House — Third place in Early Childhood Education
• Madi Teeter — Third place in T-Shirt Design
• Ellie Clinton — Third place in Job Skill Demo
Additionally, Clinton won a $500 SkillsUSA Scholarship.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce, according to the organization’s website. SkillsUSA programs include local, state and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills.
