Walks, errors send Tenino into final winner to state game

Eight combined free passes, three errors in the field and allowing three runs in the top of the seventh doomed the Beavers in a 5-3 stunner against Castle Rock on Friday night in a winner to state game in Castle Rock.

All of a sudden, the Evergreen League runners-up get a quarterfinal rematch against King’s Way Christian on Saturday night at Mt. View High School in Vancouver. Tenino beat KWC 11-6 in the contest.

“It is the best time of the year in baseball,” Beavers head coach Ryan Schlesser said. “This entire season is one game. I’m excited. I like our chances.”

The Rockets tied the game with an RBI double then took the lead on an RBI single and an error on the single capped the inning. The Beavers went down 1-2-3 in the bottom half.

Jack Burkhardt got the start on three days' rest and struggled with command, walking five, but only allowed one earned run. Tenino’s Mikey Vassar hit a home run in the fourth inning while Will Feltus recorded two hits.
