The Rochester girls basketball team won its third straight game to open the 2023-24 season Saturday, beating Olympic 54-45 in a non-league matchup in Bremerton.
Delany Winter led all scorers with 23 points and also had 10 rebounds, and Grace Hoover added 15 points.
The two teams ended the first quarter even at 9-9, but Rochester held Olympic in single digits for the second and third, while plugging in 33 points to go up by 17 heading into the final eight minutes.
Olympic went red hot to try and mount a comeback attempt, hitting six 3-pointers in the final quarter after making just four all game previously, but Rochester went 8 for 10 from the free-throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
“The girls stayed disciplined and worked hard from start to finish,” Rochester coach Keeli Rivas said. “Olympic didn’t make it easy.”
The Warriors (3-0) will open up 2A EvCo action this coming week with a gauntlet, traveling to W.F. West on Wednesday before playing at Tumwater on Friday.
