Warriors lose close match to Shelton

The Rochester volleyball team went through more than a few ups and downs Tuesday evening at home, but ended up with the short end of the stick against Shelton, losing in five sets 22-25, 25-14, 25-16, 17-25, 15-9.

Delany Winter led the Warriors (0-8, 0-4 2A EvCo) with six kills and two aces, while Lexi DuPont also had six kills and Maddie Angwood had five.

Rochester came out ahead in the first set, but dropped the next two to dig itself a hole.

“We got stuck in serve-receive a couple of times,” Rochester coach Bridget Morris said.

The Warriors came back in the fourth set to push the match to a fifth, but couldn’t quite come ahead in the decisive game.

Rochester will end its first pass through the 2A EvCo on Thursday with a match at home against league-leading Tumwater, before rewinding and taking on every league opponent once more.

“Hopefully they’ll take some momentum from this into the second half of the season, getting a bit better every time,” Morris said.
