Warriors Pick Up First Win Against Grizzlies

Getting a big advantage on the boards, the Rochester girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season against Hoquiam Monday night, 42-26.

The Warriors got eight points and 11 big rebounds from Hailey Angwood, who helped set the tone defensively and give them 14 more shot attempts than the Grizzlies.

“It is always nice to get that first win taken care of, but what I was most impressed with was our balanced scoring and unselfish play,” Warriors coach Davina Serdahl said. “Delany (Winter) had a solid game both on the wing and post. Hailey Angwood played tough under the basket, which became a very physical game. Layna Demers played a great floor game, doing all the little things we need her to do to be a contributor.”

Winter added a team-high 10 points, and Layna Demers had six assists to go along with two points in the win.

The Warriors take on W.F. West and Tumwater later this week.
