Warriors roll to big win over Grizzlies

The Rochester girl’s soccer team earned their third win of the season with a 5-0 win over Hoquiam on Monday.

Due to limited numbers for the Grizzlies, the two teams played nine-on-nine, giving the Warriors (3-2) plenty of space to work with.

They took full advantage out of the gate, as Kenna Pratt scored in just the third minute and Lizzy Hoover found the back of the net five minutes later to jump out to a 2-0 lead.

Emily Beasley and Harley Frahman both scored later in the first half to push the lead to 4-0, and Ayla Hamilton added the finishing touch with a goal in the 77th minute.

All in all, the Warriors generated 28 shots on goal, while the Grizzlies mustered just one.

Coach Matt Ashton was pleased with the way the Warriors responded after losing a tight game last Thursday against Centralia, saying he was very happy that they proved they can play better than they did in that loss.

“It was nice to be able to get out fast, be able to move the ball quickly with our passing, be more physical, and play solid defense throughout the night,” Ashton said.

With the win, the Warriors have already surpassed their win total from last season, when they went 2-14.

Next up, Rochester will host Aberdeen in a league matchup on Thursday at 7 p.m.
