Warriors Take Down Kangs in Kirkland

Taking the long trek up Interstate-5 for a non-league contest against a 3A squad, the Rochester softball team made sure to not come home empty-handed, defeating Lake Washington in Kirkland Monday afternoon, 7-4.

The Warriors got their bats going for the second straight contest, and did so early, with Jessa Lenzi knocking in a run in the first, and Kaylei Clark knocking in Lenzi after a line-drive double.

The bats went quiet for a pair of innings before the Warriors added another four runs in the fourth, and held on for the non-league win.

Clark got the start toeing the rubber for the Warriors, pitching four innings and allowing two runs on five hits with a strikeout. Kassidy Byrd stepped in to pitch the final three innings, allowing two runs, with one earned, on two hits with three strikeouts.

Lenzi went 2 for 4 at the dish with two RBIs and a run scored, Mckenna Vassar went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a double, Clark added an RBI double along with Byrd, and Sara Haury went 2 for 3 as the Warriors peppered nine hits across the field.

Rochester will look to carry that positive momentum into a critical rubber match with Aberdeen on the road Wednesday, with the season series split at 1-1 to this point in the season.
