The Rochester baseball team snapped a short two-game skid on Friday, defeating Rainier 8-2 in a non-league clash.

The Warriors held a slim 2-1 lead through three innings before building a comfortable lead with a five-run fourth.

Ethan Rodriguez went 2 for 3 at the plate and drove in three runs, while Dane Akin and Kole Smith both added a hit and an RBI of their own. Smith couldn’t be stopped on the base paths, as he stole seven bases and scored four runs.

After Tayden Martin and Colton Weiss threw two innings apiece to open the game, Smith also pitched three no-hit innings to end the game.

Dayton Gardner and Kaymen Larman drove in Rainier’s two runs, and Gardner added an inning and a third of scoreless work in relief. Hunter Howell was tagged for seven runs in three and two-thirds as Rainier’s starter, but only one of those runs were charged as earned.

Rochester (9-6, 6-4 1A Evergreen) will wrap up its regular season on Tuesday with a doubleheader in Montesano.

The Mountaineers end their regular season at 8-10, and their mark of 7-9 in C2BL play earned them the league’s No. 6 seed in the upcoming 2B District 4 Tournament.

As the six seed, Rainier will play the P2BL’s three seed (either Raymond-South Bend or Forks) in the first round of the district tournament on Saturday, May 10 at Napavine.
