Warriors upend Beavers, earn shot at district tourney berth

A Scatter Creek Showdown that had heavy implications on the Class 1A District 4 tournament now has a chance for chaos with the Rochester High School girls basketball team coming away with a 44-41 triumph over Tenino on Friday night.

The road Evergreen league victory puts the Warriors (2-17, 1-6 Evergreen) in a tie in the win column with Tenino. They close the regular season at home versus Hoquiam on Wednesday and a win would solidify a spot at districts.

Rochester jumped out to a six-point lead after the opening quarter and made enough plays to hold on. Lexi Dupont paced the scoring with a game-high 18 points while Lizzie Hoover registered 11.

Tenino (4-16, 1-7) will have to play the waiting game to see if tiebreakers go in its favor for the fourth spot in the tournament. Kylie Gonia led the Beavers in their regular season finale with 10 points while Charley Jones and Holly Thoren each scored nine.
