The Washington state Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) has sent overdue notices this week to 17 candidates who appeared to have missed the deadline for a mandatory pre-general election spending report, a news release announced.

State law requires candidates and committees who are participating in the general election and registered as full reporters (required for those who raise and spend more than $7,000) to file expenditure reports 21 and seven days prior to election day, and on the 10th day of the month following the election, regardless of how much financial activity the campaign had.

The 21-day pre-general election report due Oct. 13 covered campaign spending during the period between Sept. 1 and Oct. 12. The PDC maintains a list of filing deadlines and other reporting resources on its website, available at https://tinyurl.com/ya8tk8cb.

On Oct. 16, the following candidates received notices of possible non-compliance for not filing the report:

• Aimee N. Maurer – Spokane County District Court Judge

• Blake Richards – Asotin County Sheriff

• Christal Olivia Irwin – Stevens County District Court Judge

• Crystal L. Cox (write-In) – Jefferson County Sheriff

• Darci A. Homesley – Grant County Auditor

• Darryl Chepoda, Jr. – Kittitas County Sheriff

• James Michael Volz – Spokane County Treasurer

• John D. Adams – Pacific County Assessor

• John P. Gibbons – State Representative, Legislative District 45

• Matthew Carlson – Adams County Sheriff

• Rick Catlin – Kittitas PUD 1 Commission

• Trinity Orosco – Franklin County District Court Judge

Campaigns that fail to file mandatory reports will be subject to enforcement action. Improving compliance with mandatory expenditure reporting deadlines is one of the commission’s strategic goals, it stated in the news release.
