The Washington state Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW)’s office in Morton opened to the public on Thursday, Jan. 18.

Office hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., excluding legal holidays. Previously, the office was only open by appointment.

“We are excited to offer additional public services in the east Lewis County area,” said Richard Vanderlip, WDFW’s Cowlitz Wildlife Area manager, in a press release. “The office will be able to assist with fishing and hunting license sales, local access information, and pelt sealing.”

As part of WDFW’s southwest region, the Cowlitz Wildlife Area field office is located at 110 Main Ave. in Morton.

The office is close to the Cowlitz Wildlife Area, Cowlitz River, Riffe Lake and several national forests and other public lands popular for fishing, hunting, wildlife watching and outdoor recreation.

The phone number to contact customer service staff in the Morton office is 360-496-6223.

WDFW manages more than a million acres of land and hundreds of water access areas throughout the state. By actively managing lands, restoring habitats, and preserving wild places, the Department serves as stewards for Washington’s natural places, protecting the state’s land and water for its human and wildlife populations.

WDFW works to preserve, protect, and perpetuate fish, wildlife and ecosystems while providing sustainable fish and wildlife recreational and commercial opportunities.
