South Puget Sound’s Weston Potter and Jenna Kalar, a W.F. West alum and a Tumwater alum, were both named to the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Golf All-League Second Team, as announced by the NWAC on Monday.

“I am incredibly proud of Weston and Jenna for earning Second Team All-League honors,” SPSCC Golf Head Coach Russ Olsen said in a school press release. “For any player to receive all-league recognition is a major achievement, but for two freshmen to do it is truly special.”

Kalar became the first-ever SPSCC women’s golfer to be named to the team. Throughout the year, she broke team records for lowest round and overall scores. Her best finish came at the Blue Mountain Community College Invitational, where she shot an 82 on both days to earn a second-place finish.

"It’s an honor to be the first Clipper Women's athlete to receive All-League,” Kalar said in the school’s release. “It makes me feel proud of the work that I put in this season.”

Potter also made school history with his nod, as he became the school’s first men’s freshman to earn a spot. He capped his campaign with a +8 showing in the SPSCC league match before finishing at +4 in the Olympic College match. He earned a top-10 finish in both, tying for ninth at the SPSCC match and tying for fifth at Olympic.

“I think this is a good step in the right direction,” Potter said in the release. “It’s a great start to my college golf career, and I’m honored and thankful to be selected to the NWAC Second Team. I’m really excited for more golf to come.”

Olsen spoke at length about his freshmen golfers, and he believes that both Kalar and Potter are “strong pillars” for next year’s team.

“It speaks volumes about their work ethic, their competitiveness, and the bright future of our golf program,” Olsen said in the release. “They stepped up in big moments all season, and this is a well-deserved reward for their dedication.”

According to the release, both golfers are set to compete in the NWAC Golf Championships on May 17 and 18 at the Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima. May 17, a Sunday, will begin with a shotgun start at 12 p.m., while the 18th, a Monday, will be an 8 a.m. split start.
