W.F. West equestrian team senior breaks individual flags record at Elma meet

W.F. West High School senior and equestrian team member Violet Ratkie and her horse Willow set a new District 6 Washington High School Equestrian Team (WAHSET) record in individual flags with a time of 8.082 seconds at a meet at the Elma Fairgrounds from March 26 to March 29.

Ratkie is a fourth-year member in WAHSET. The previous District 6 record was 8.150 seconds. W.F. West’s equestrian team is composed of 17 riders from Centralia, Napavine, W.F. West, Onalaska, Winlock, Adna, Mossyrock and Toledo.

The following individual riders competed at the meet in Elma:

• Violet Ratkie — First in individual flags, first in breakaway roping, second in steer daubing, third in Figure 8

• Isabel Thompson — First in dressage, first in in-hand trail, second in saddle seat equitation, second in working rancher, third in hunt seat equitation

• Amelia Venters — First in trail equitation, first in driving, first in stock seat equitation, second in dressage, ninth in hunt seat equitation

• Maizy Samuelson — First in working rancher, second in trail equitation, third in stock seat equitation, seventh in hunt seat equitation, 10th in dressage

• Alice Venters — Second in driving, second in showmanship, fourth in working rancher, fifth in dressage

• Cassie Wilson — Second in Figure 8, 10th in barrels

• Emma Engstrom — Third in pole bending, fourth in dressage, fifth in stock seat equitation, eighth in reining

• Anya Lyon — Third in showmanship, ninth in pole bending

• Izzy Hench — Fourth in keyhole, sixth in reining, sixth in stock seat equitation, seventh in dressage

• Ellie Morhous — Fourth in trail equitation, sixth in stock seat equitation, seventh in working rancher, 10th in dressage

• Georgia Mills — Fifth in pole bending, ninth in individual flags

• Max Coulter — Seventh in in-hand trail

• Lillian McGeary — Seventh in keyhole

The W.F. West equestrian team has one more District 6 meet from April 23 to April 26 at the Elma Fairgrounds to determine who qualifies for the state meet in Moses Lake in May.
