The W.F. West boys basketball team traveled south to compete in the Martin Luther King Jr. Diamond Showcase Classic at Lower Columbia College, and the Bearcats fell to Kelso 55-47.
The first quarter was an offensive showcase, as the two teams combined for 42 points, but the next two quarters saw just 34 points combined. The Bearcats specifically struggled in the third, scoring just three points to enter the fourth down eight.
Grady Westlund had another big night in the paint, scoring 15 points, grabbing 20 rebounds, and blocking three shots, while Gage Brumfield scored eight points.
Fox Rogerson, Alex Stafford, Carlos Vallejo, and Ross Kelley added four points each, while Weston Potter and Hayden Rooney added three apiece. Rogerson and Potter both added four assists, while Wyatt Hoffman scored two points.
W.F. West (6-9, 2-2 2A EvCo) will return home on Wednesday, when it will host Centralia in the first Swamp Cup meeting of the season.
