Dakota Hawkins, a W.F. West High School alum, is one step closer to reaching the Major Leagues.

The right-hander in the New York Mets organization was called up to their Double-A affiliate the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Monday. In his first start in the Eastern League on Tuesday, Hawkins tossed three innings and allowed four earned runs on 70 pitches with one strikeout.

Hawkins has spent the majority of the season with the High-A affiliate the St. Lucie Mets. In nine starts, he’s 3-4 with an earned run average north of four and 61 strikeouts.

Most notably, Hawkins was the starter for St. Lucie, as he was a part of a combined no-hitter that featured catcher Francisco Alvarez behind the dish on a rehab assignment.

Hawkins next start in the rotation for Binghamton is likely to be either Sunday against New Hampshire or the opening game of a road series at Somerset next week.
