Fueled by 14 of the 20 total shots landing on frame, the Bearcats eventually broke down the Bobcats back line and secured a 2-0 verdict in an Evergreen Conference contest on Thursday night at Stewart Field.

Wyatt Rogerson netted the opening goal in the 20th minute on an assist by Ashlen Gruginski. W.F. West (6-2, 2-1 EvCo) head coach Kevin Schultz viewed it as a total team goal. It started with a Kaija Economou pass to Rhylee Beebe then Gruginski then Rogerson.

“Felt like we controlled a lot of the game, especially in the second half,” Schultz added. “We put them under pressure.”

Lauren Kelley scored on a set piece, being in the right place at the right time off a Madi Otten head flick. W.F. West’s defense only allowed two total shots by Aberdeen and just one was on target.

Next up for the Bearcats is the first game against arch rival Centralia at home on Tuesday.

“We know very well it could be a defensive battle,” Schultz said. “We know the intensity is going to be high.”
