W.F. West won its opener at the Baseballism Classic in Ridgefield on Thursday night, defeating Lynden 13-2 in six innings.
Lynden took a 1-0 lead in the first and led 2-1 after three, but the W.F. West offense exploded for 12 runs over the next three innings.
Hayden Rooney came through with the run-rule walk-off hit, hitting a two-run double to left to seal the game.
Connor Coleman went 2 for 2 with a double at the plate while also allowing just one earned run and striking out six across four innings of work on the bump.
Wyatt Hoffman pitched two hitless innings out of the pen in relief, and he also drove in a run and had a hit at the plate.
Hudson McCallum, Beckman Dvorak, Ayden Jacobson, and Reece Marquez also drove in runs in the victory.
With the win, the Bearcats advance to the semifinals of the Richie Sexson bracket, the same bracket that they won last March. They’ll take on either Fife or East Valley (Yakima) on Friday for a spot in the championship game, which is set to take place on Saturday.
