A dozen teams traveled to Fairway Lanes for the 1A/2A District 4 Tournament on Friday, and W.F. West prevailed with its third straight district title and its fifth in the last six years.

With the win, the Bearcats also secured their eighth consecutive trip to state.

W.F. West and Hudson’s Bay both finished the regular season undefeated, and those two teams were locked in a tight battle throughout. In the end, W.F. West narrowly came out on top 3,981-3,944.

W.F. West’s Savanna Hoyt-Siler won her second consecutive individual district scoring title by averaging 217.33 pins her first three games, posting a 652 series.

“Savanna had a great start to the tournament,” W.F. West coach Rich Bunker said.

Hoyt-Siler especially thrived in the Baker Games, where she had three strikes in the tenth frame in nearly every game.

“That made a huge difference in the total pin count for us,” Bunker said.

Emma Hamilton placed inside the top 10, finishing eighth by averaging 186. Her day got off to a slow start, but she made a couple of adjustments and later bowled a 245.

“Emma really got us pumped up with that game,” Bunker said.

Aly Wiens (11th, averaged 180.66) and August Isenhower (15th, 175.66) also placed in the top 15.

R.A. Long, the defending state champions, also grabbed a state tournament spot, and so did Rochester, which will head to state for the first time in its history.

The Warriors finished the day fourth with a total pin count of 3,749.

Natalie Southard led the Warriors with an average of 198, including a game of 247, to finish third, and Kailyn Black averaged 187 across her three games to place seventh.

Taylor Staley averaged 168 to get into the top 20, while Kaysee Smith averaged 164 and Aveleena Somvilay averaged 147.

Bunker said that he and the Bearcats are excited for the Warriors, as they saw how much work they put in practicing and bowling alongside them throughout the season.

Centralia finished ninth in the team total with 3,072.

Next up for W.F. West and Rochester is the state tournament, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7 and 8, at Bowlero Lanes in Tukwila.

Rochester wins EvCo Tournament

Before the district tournament on Friday, Rochester, W.F. West, Centralia and other EvCo teams got together for the first Evergreen Conference bowling tournament, and the Warriors ended the tournament on top.

Rochester knocked down 2,411 total pins, beating the W.F. West junior varsity team, which placed second with 2,364 pins. Centralia finished sixth with 1,964 pins.

W.F. West freshman Mak Zuber won the individual championship with a 611 series and an average of 203.66.

Rochester’s Natalie Southard had a 579 series (193 average), and Kaysee Smith finished third with a 497 series (165.66 average).
