Bellingham police arrested a suspect following an alleged assault involving a dental tool.
Police responded to the 2600 block of West Maplewood Avenue around 6:45 a.m. Sept. 27 for an assault call, Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Herald.
The suspect, a 42-year-old man from Deming, allegedly came to visit a person at the residence, then refused to leave. The resident called another man to help, and when he arrived he told the suspect to leave, according to Murphy.
A fight occurred between the two men, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed the man three times in the back with a Sickle Scaler tool used by dentists, Murphy said. The suspect then fled the scene on an electric bike.
Ferndale police informed the BPD they had detained the suspect around 10:05 a.m. He was arrested by the Bellingham police and was booked into the Whatcom County Jail.
He was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault as well as possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a charge related to a separate incident in August.
